ALONE IN THE RAIN (Dan Dougherty / Edmund Goulding (m & l) 1929) As sung by Donald Novis 1930 Also sung by: The Carleton Coon/Joe Sanders Nighthawks 1930 Into every life a little rain must fall So the poets say For and how It's raining on me now. And just when I need you near me most of all You are far away I keep calling to you in vain All alone in the rain. When the skies are clear I could always find you near Now I'm alone in the rain. When they turn to gray Like a bird you flew away Left me alone in the rain. Let it pitter patter It doesn't matter It only grieves me so...to know... My stormy weather pal Was a fair weather gal Who left me alone in the rain. (short bridge) When the skies are clear I could always find you near Now I'm alone in the rain. When they turn to grey Like a bird you flew away Left me alone in the rain. Let it pitter patter For it doesn't matter It only grieves me so...to know... My stormy weather pal Was a fair weather gal Who left me alone in the rain.
