I CAN'T MAKE MUSIC (Randy Edelman (m & l) ) As sung by the Carpenters < Now And Then > 1973 Here I am just sittin' around With an old piano in a vacant room And the same old feelin's come again. So uncertain, hurtin', scared I though I grew, but here I am again I shoulda seen the train be passin' through I thought I knew. And I can't make music No I can't make rhyme No I can't do anything To take me away this time. I know it's an old cliche to say I feel I'm gonna die And I hear it's goin' out to cry So I'm gonna say some kind words to you. I like to wish you luck and hope That life will be with someone else Just like I thought it would be with me But I can't see. And I can't make music No I can't make rhyme No I can't do anything To take me away this time. I can't make music And I can't make rhyme No I can't do anything To take me away this time. (bridge to end) Notes: The Carpenters were an talented brother/sister singer/songwriting duo born in New Haven, CT USA, later moving to Downey CA (near Los Angeles) in 1963. In 1965, they embarked upon their historic musical journey. Their distinctive soft rock sound was a contrast to the loud and raucous sounds of the day. As well as singing, Karen was accomplished at drums and brother Richard at piano. Sadly, the duo's career ended prematurely with the heartbreaking death of Karen Carpenter in 1983. She was 32 years old. While they were together, they released 11 albums and 30 singles. The Grammy Hall Of Fame recognized the Carpenters as providing music of 'lasting qualitative or historical significance' (older than 25 years) by honouring them with their prestigious award. The 1971 album < Carpenters > was the most successful release that this talented duo ever produced, both in North America and internationally. It contained the songs for which the Carpenters, to this day and forever, will be indelibly linked such as: RAINY DAYS AND MONDAYS LET ME BE THE ONE FOR ALL WE KNOW SUPERSTAR (Transcribed by David Story May 2014)
