I COULD BE HAPPY WITH YOU (Sandy Wilson 1953 (m & l) ) As released by Julie Andrews 1954 (with John Hewer and Anton Coppola) Also recorded by Ronnie Aldrich with the London Festival Orchestra and Chorus 1972 (Hewer) I don't claim that I am psychic But one look at you and I kick Away every scruple I learnt as a pupil In school my dear. (Andrews) I'm not one to make predictions But I've thrown off all restrictions And don't mind confessing I think it's a blessing That you are here. (Hewer) Though I'm prepared to find I'm wrong I've got a funny feeling we belong together. (Hewer) I could be happy with you If you could be happy with me (Andrews) I'd be contented to live anywhere What would I care As long as you were there. (Hewer) Skies may not always be blue (Andrews) But one thing is clear as can be (Both) I know that I could be happy with you, my darling If you could be happy with me. (Andrews) I could be happy with you If you could be happy with me (Hewer) I'd be contented to live anywhere What would I care As long as you were there. (Andrews) Skies may not always be blue But one thing is clear as can be (Both) I know that I could be happy with you, my darling If you could be happy with me. (bridge - tap routine and whistling) (Both) I know that I could be happy with you, my darling If you could be happy with me. NOTES: These lyrics may be found in the musical 'The Boy Friend' by Sandy Wilson (book also). The actual version of these lyrics derive from the 1954 Broadway play. This very popular musical was written first for the London Player's Theatre Club and eventually was staged in the historic London West End theatre district in 1954. Interestingly, the 'West End' theatre district started life in the 1660s and is the largest of it's kind in the world (by some accounts, theatre in London began in the mid 1500s). Julie Andrews career sprung from her work done in this locale. (Transcribed by David Story- April 2014)
