THE KEY TO MY HEART (Bob Merrill (m & l) ) As sung by Rosemary Clooney 1965 (orchestra conducted by Jimmy Carroll) Harpsichord Buddy Weed Also sung by: Suzi Miller My bell, my bird My cat (meow) my dog (ruff, ruff). My bell is ringier than your bell My bird can tweet tweet sweeter My house is prettier than your house Don't you wish You could ring my bell Come in my house Sit and hear my bird Like you did with me When you had the key to my heart. My cat is kittier than your cat My dog can bow wow louder My jam is jellier than your jam. Don't you wish you could taste my jam You could walk my dog by the hollow log Like you did with me When you had the key to my heart. I should hate yuh And never date yuh For all the trouble that you bring me. Still I sit alone by my telephone Waitin' for you to ring me. My bell in lonelier than your bell My bird is not tweet tweetin' Hey, babe, I need a little lovin'. How'd you like to ring my bell And come in my house Sit and hear my bird Like you did with me When you had the key to my heart. (bridge) I should hate yuh And never date yuh For all the trouble that you bring me. Still I sit alone by my telephone Waitin' for you to ring me. My bell in lonelier than your bell My bird is not tweet tweetin' Hey, babe, I need a little lovin'. How'd you like to ring my bell And come in my house And hear my bird Like you did with me When you had the key to my heart. My dog (ruff, ruff), my cat (meow) My bird, my bell C'mon to my house. Notes: Rosemary Clooney, Kentucky USA born, was one of America's distinguished woman singers from the 1950s forward. She also appeared in a number of films and TV specials. She performed right up until her death in 2002. Clooney started singing first with her beloved sister Betty in 1945 and advanced upward in the music industry, eventually working with Bing Crosby, Danny Kaye and others. Ultimately she had her own TV show. In her lifetime, she received a litany of awards for her work. Interestingly, the actor George Clooney was a nephew of hers. Bob Merrill was an American composer and lyricist. He should not be confused with Robert Merrill, the great operatic baritone who was born a few years before him. Some of his iconic hits were Patti Page's HOW MUCH IS THAT DOGGIE IN THE WINDOW Eileen Barton's IF I KNEW YOU WERE COMIN' I'D'VE HAVE BAKED A CAKE Jimmie Roger's HONEYCOMB and Streisand's PEOPLE THE KEY TO MY HEART was released as the 'A' side of a 45 rpm disk in 1955. The 'B' side was A LITTLE GIRL AT HEART (Transcribed by David Story- April 2014)
