LONG LIVE THE NIGHT (Sigmund Romberg (m) / Mario Silva & Jack Scholl (l) ) As released by Kathryn Grayson / Tony Martin from the album < The Desert Song > 1953. Note that the album mentioned above is not the office soundtrack from the 1953 film. The original contained Kathryn Grayson and Gordon MacRae singing this song. Grayson and Martin were accompanied by Arthur Fielder in the version below. [Kathryn Grayson] Night is the ruler of love And I bow my head to your command Night though you hold me in your spell I know so well My fate is in your hands. Long live the night In all its splendour Long may the moon Light up the blue. All through the night Softly and tender I'll sing my song of love To you. Here in my arms Let me enfold you And as the skies Shine from above. Tell me you're mine And as I hold you Long live the night In memory of our love. [Tony Martin] Long live the night In all its splendour Long may the moon Light up the blue. All through the night Softly and tender I'll sing my song of love To you. [Kathryn Grayson] When we embrace There's no concealing You're every dream I'm dreaming of... [Kathryn Grayson and Tony Martin] Before the dawn Comes softly stealing Long live the night In memory of our love. NOTES: The composer/lyricists wrote this song specifically for the 1943 Warner Bros musical film < Desert Song > , an adaptation of the 1926 Broadway 3-act stage operetta by the same name. The 1943 film was directed by Robert Florey. Dennis Morgan and Irene Manning were the principles. < Desert Song > was adapted once again in 1953. The director was Bruce Humberstone and the principles were Kathryn Grayson and Gordon MacRae. In 1955 a TV adaptation was completed as well. Adaptations continue to this day. From a historical standpoint, this song/lyrics appeared in both the 1943 and the 1953 films. (Transcribed by David Story- April 2014)
