THE ONE IN THE WORLD (Eric Little / Richard Eckersley (m & l) ) As sung Annette Hanshaw 1929 < Annette Hanshaw Volume 6 1929 > (Released as a compilation in 2000) (bridge to start) I knew the moment that I met you I would get you It seems that fate arranged our meeting When you came my way. And though my actions seem unruly Love you truly. To all the world I am repeating I've just got to say. I knew you were the one in the world The only one who knew That love and I were one in the world For you, no one but you. You brought the moon, the sun and the world You took away the rain You made me feel what's real in the world Built my castles in Spain. My heart won't behave dear 'Til you are mine For I'm your willing slave dear I worship at your shrine. Why dear, what else is done in the world Whatever is to be I know you are the one in the world For me. (bridge to...) That's all! Notes: (Catherine) Annette Hanshaw, an American, was a blues and jazz singer from the 1920s and early 1930s and was purportedly one of the first female jazz singers of that era. She was known as 'The Personality Girl' or later as the 'The Flapper Girl' by her followers and fit the 1920s period perfectly with her flapper style and sweet innocent-sounding voice. She often ended her songs with the cute tag "That's All". See MY BLACKBIRDS ARE BLUEBIRDS NOW or LOVABLE & SWEET as other examples. Some consider the later Hanshaw, a 'torch singer' along with the likes of Ruth Etting, Mildred Bailey, Jane Froman and Bebe Daniels. Strangely, she thought her abilities 'wanting' by her own standards and retired early to married life, after only 15 years in the business. < THE ONE IN THE WORLD > was also released as a single in 1929. The flip side was I'VE GOT A FEELING I'M FALLIN' (Transcribed by David Story- April 2014)
