A PLACE TO HIDEAWAY (Randy Sparks (m & l) ) As sung by the Carpenters 1971 < Carpenters > I've got to find a place to hideaway Far from the shadows of my mind Sunlight and laughter, love ever after For how I long to find a place to hideaway. I hear you whisper and I must obey Blindly follow where you'll be Knowing tomorrow brings only sorrow Where can I go to find a place to hideaway. Bright colored pinwheels go round in my head I run through the mist of the wine The night and the music remind me instead The world once was mine. I'll save my pennies for a rainy day But where can I buy another you Dreams are for sleeping Love is for weeping Oh, how I long to find a place to hideaway. (bridge) The night and the music remind me instead The world once was mine. I'll save my pennies for a rainy day But where can I buy another you Dreams are for sleeping Love is for weeping Oh, how I long to find a place to hideaway. Notes: The Carpenters were an talented brother/sister singer/songwriting duo born in New Haven CT USA, later moving to Downey CA (near Los Angeles) in 1963. In 1965, they embarked upon their historic musical journey. Their distinctive soft rock sound was a contrast to the loud and raucous sounds of the day. As well as singing, Karen was accomplished at drums and brother Richard at piano. Sadly, the duo's career ended prematurely with the heartbreaking death of Karen Carpenter in 1983. She was 32 years old. While they were together, they released 11 albums and 30 singles. The Grammy Hall Of Fame recognized the Carpenters as providing music of 'lasting qualitative or historical significance' (older than 25 years) by honouring them with their prestigious award. The 1971 album "Carpenter" was the most successful release that this talented duo ever produced, both in North America and internationally. It contained the songs for which the Carpenters, to this day and forever, will be indelibly linked such as: RAINY DAYS AND MONDAYS LET ME BE THE ONE FOR ALL WE KNOW and SUPERSTAR (Transcribed by David Story May 2014)
