SWEET SWEET SMILE (Juice Newton / Otha Young) As released by the Carpenters January 1977 < Passage > You're always in my heart From early in the mornin' 'til it's dark I gotta see your sweet, sweet smile everyday. When I wake up in the mornin' And I see you there I always whisper a little prayer I gotta see your sweet, sweet smile everyday. I gotta know that you love me And that you want me And that you'll always be there I've gotta know that you care. And I gotta feel your arms around me And that you need me And you'll always be there I've gotta know that you care. If my times are bringin' me down You're the only one that I want around I gotta see your sweet, sweet smile everyday. And if I'm all strung out You're the only one who can straighten me out I gotta see your sweet, sweet smile every day. I gotta know that you love me And that you want me And that you'll always be there I've gotta know that you care. And I gotta feel your arms around me And that you need me And you'll always be there I've gotta know that you care. (bridge) I gotta know that you love me And that you want me And that you'll always be there I've gotta know that you care. And I gotta feel your arms around me And that you need me And you'll always be there I've gotta know that you care. You're always in my heart From early in the mornin' 'til it's dark I gotta see your sweet, sweet smile everyday. I gotta see your sweet, sweet smile everyday. I gotta see your sweet, sweet smile everyday. NOTES: The Carpenters were an talented brother/sister singer/songwriting duo hailing from Los Angeles CA USA. As of 2013, they had sold more than 100 million units (source BBC). Their distinctive soft rock sound was a contrast to the loud and raucous sounds of the day. As well as singing, Karen was accomplished at drums and brother Richard at piano. Sadly, the duo's career ended prematurely with death of Karen Carpenter in 1983. She was 32 years old. The Grammy Hall Of Fame recognized the Carpenters as providing music of 'lasting qualitative or history significance' (older than 25 years) by honouring them with their prestigious award. Interestingly and as is sometimes the case, some songs were released in several different 2nd side formats. Back in the late 1970s, 45 rpm and EP disks, were released with Mono on one side and Stereo on the other. Additionally different countries, under license to (in this case) A&M, released the 'A' side as < Sweet Sweet Smile > and the 'B' side differed (from country to country). Many countries also released Promo Only records which surface now then, scattered throughout our continents with dissimilar 'B' sides. (Transcribed by David Story - February 2014)
