WHEN IT’S GONE (IT’S JUST GONE) (Randy Handley (m & l) ) As released by the Carpenters < Made In America > 1981 Where's the word for the sadness Where's the poetry in the pain Where's the colour in the stain, where the tears have fallen It's gone, it's just gone. Where's the method to this madness As we create this suffering And we do each other in and we still hold on But it's gone, it's just gone. He says it's gone And he can't go on living a memory Mulling it over endlessly Why is that so hard for me to see. He says it's gone And he can't go on trying to live a lie And when he cries, I know it's over But I may never know why. There's no face in the locket There's no place for the past I'll put it back in my pocket It was never meant to last It's just gone. He says it's gone And he can't go on living a memory Mulling it over endlessly Why is that so hard for me to see. He says it's gone And he can't go on trying to live a lie And when he cries, I know it's over But I may never know why. There's no word for the sadness There's no poetry in the pain There's no colour in the stain, where the tears have fallen It's gone, it's just gone. It's gone, it's just gone Well, it's gone. NOTES: This song was released in both album format and as a 45 rpm single (it’s A side was < Those Good Old Dreams > ). (see elsewhere in this ILP database). The Carpenters were a talented brother/sister singer/songwriting duo hailing from Los Angeles CA USA. As of 2013, they had sold more than 100 million units (source BBC). Their distinctive soft rock sound provided contrast to the loud and raucous sounds of the day. As well as singing, Karen was accomplished at drums and brother Richard at piano. Sadly, the duo's career ended prematurely with the death of Karen Carpenter in 1983. She was 32 years old. < Made In America > was the final album released before Karen’s passing. The Grammy Hall Of Fame recognized the Carpenters as providing music of 'lasting qualitative or history significance' (older than 25 years) by honouring them with their prestigious award.
