YOU (Randy Edelman (m & l) ) As sung by Karen Carpenter 1976 < A Kind Of Hush > You are the one who makes me happy When everything else turns to gray Yours is the voice that wakes me mornin's And sends me out into the day. You are the crowd that sits quiet, listenin' to me And all the mad sense that I make. You are one of the few things worth rememberin' And since it's all true How could anyone mean more to me than you. Sorry if sometimes I look past you There's no one beyond your eyes Inside my head the wheels are turnin' Hey, sometimes I'm not so wise. You are my heart and my soul, my inspiration Just like the old love song goes. You are one of the few things worth rememberin' And since it's all true How could anyone mean more to me than you. (bridge) [Beyond your eyes] Chorus You are the one and my soul, my inspiration Just like the old love song goes You are one of the few things worth rememberin' And since it's all true How could anyone mean more to me than you. Notes: Randy Edelman, an American from New Jersey, is a composer and conductor/producer. He wrote a number of film scores and popular hits including this song which became a hit in Britain. A string of big artists recorded his music...Barry Manilow, Olivia Newton John, Shirley Bassey, Rosemary Clooney, Bing Crosby and Dionne Warwick to name a few. The Carpenters were an talented brother/sister singer/songwriting duo hailing from Los Angeles CA USA. Their distinctive soft rock sound was a contrast to the loud and raucous sounds of the day. As well as singing, Karen was accomplished at drums and brother Richard at piano. Sadly, the duo's career ended prematurely with death of Karen Carpenter in 1983. She was 32 years old. While they were together, they released 11 albums and 30 singles. The Grammy Hall Of Fame recognized the Carpenters as providing music of 'lasting qualitative or history significance' (older than 25 years) by honouring them with their prestigious award.
