BELLE OF BUTTERCUP LANE
(Mack David / Margo Smith)
Margo Smith - 1979
Every day she dresses for her wedding
In the bridal gown she will wear
And for years she's been dressing for this wedding
But the bridegroom is never there
She never says a word, she never says a thing
But every now and then you'll hear her sing
I am the belle of Buttercup Lane
And you are my little boy blue
We'll sing in the sunshine, we'll laugh in the rain
And I am so happy with you
On her gown's a bright shiny medal
Attached with a ribbon of course
It's the medal they gave for a hero
It's called the Distinguished Service Cross
It happened far away, it's been so very long
And now she's old and grey as she sings her song
Oh, I am the belle of Buttercup Lane
And you are my little boy blue
We sing in the sunshine we laugh in the rain
And I am so happy with you
