I opened a letter a few months ago,
And I never told you ‘cause I loved you so,
For it came from your old love who said I should know
That you are a Breaker of Hearts.

She warn'd me that soon you would break my heart, too,
For you were the kind who could never be true.
And tho' I was frightened and touch'd by her tears,
You gentle lips soon kissed away all my fears.

I opened a letter you sent me today,
I couldn't believe you'd desert me this way,
So if I find your new love I'll write her and say,
That she had a Breaker of Hearts.
