DON'T BE AFRAID (Richard Carpenter (m & l) ) As sung by the Carpenters < Ticket To Ride > 1969 Note that the < Ticket To Ride > LP was first released as the Carpenters debut album under the name < Offering > Love... Don't be afraid to love and get love returned Don't be afraid to tell everyone you've learned That love is a groovy thing It knows how to make you sing And it fills up your life with sunshine and joy. Don't be afraid to give all you've got to give One of these days you'll find that's the way to live And living is what we all were put on this earth to do So come on and live and be happy. Don't be afraid to love... (bridge) Love is a groovy thing It knows how to make you sing And it fills up your life with sunshine and joy. Don't be afraid to give all you've got to give One of these days you'll find that's the way to live And living is what we all were put on this earth to do So come on and live and be happy Oh, live and be happy Don't be afraid to love. Don't be afraid to love [Chorus] Don't be afraid to love [Chorus] Don't be afraid to love [Chorus] Notes: The Carpenters were an talented brother/sister singer/songwriting duo born in New Haven CT USA, later moving to Downey CA (near Los Angeles) in 1963. In 1965, they embarked upon their historic musical journey. Their distinctive soft rock sound was a contrast to the loud and raucous sounds of the day. As well as singing, Karen was accomplished at drums and brother Richard at piano. Sadly, the duo's career ended prematurely with the heartbreaking death of Karen Carpenter in 1983. She was 32 years old. While they were together, they released 11 albums and 30 singles. The Grammy Hall Of Fame recognized the Carpenters as providing music of 'lasting qualitative or historical significance' (older than 25 years) by honouring them with their prestigious award. The 1971 album "Carpenter" was the most successful release that this talented duo ever produced, both in North America and internationally. It contained the songs for which the Carpenters, to this day and forever, will be indelibly linked such as: RAINY DAYS AND MONDAYS LET ME BE THE ONE FOR ALL WE KNOW and SUPERSTAR (Transcribed by David Story May 2014)
