HEART ACHES
(Jack Norworth, 1919)
There are times when you're glad
there are times when you're sad
and life doesn't seem worth the while
But we all get our share of sorrow and care
there's a heart ache 'neath many a smile.
There are heartaches we know
as the years come and go
it seems we can never explain
Why that ache seems to cling
when gladness should bring
all the sunshine and roses again.
There's the heart ache when someone's lonesome
longing just for home sweet home
There's the heart ache when someone's mother prays for one who chose to roam
There's the heart ache when lover's quarrel
And the tear drops start to fall
But when you lose the one you're dreaming of
that's the greatest heart ache of all.
