HOUSE IS A HOME, A
Carr / David
as rec by Vera Lynn w Orch dir by Roland Shaw
April 1952
A house is a home when there's someone waiting,
Waiting at the door for you;
But a house is a house,
Nothin' more than a house,
When it isn't shared by two.
A house is a home when there's someone cookin',
Cookin' something that's home grown,
But a house is a house,
Nothin' more than a house,
When you have to eat alone.
What good is a chair
When there's nobody there
To hand you your favourite slipper?
What good is the sky
When there's nobody by
To point out the Big Dipper?
A house is a home when there's lots of lovin',
Lovin' that is tried and true;
But a house is a house,
Nothin' more than a house,
If I can't share it with you!
No fun to shop
When you don't have to stop
And think, "Is it what he'll go for?".
You don't need a lot,
Just as long as you've got
A dream to save your dough for!
A house is a home when there's love to greet you
When the weary day is through;
But a house is a house,
Nothin' more than a house,
If I can't come home to you!
