and was known for her unique manner of manipulating
phrasing and tempo in her work.
She was nicknamed ‘Lady Day’ by her
friends and musical associates.
She worked with the some of the big band jazz greats
like Duke Ellington, Teddy Wilson, Count Basie,
Benny Goodman and Artie Shaw and was
competition for Ella Fitzgerald.
