I LEFT MY SUGAR STANDING IN THE RAIN
(Sammy Fain (m) Irving Kahal (l) )
as recorded by Lee Wiley
September 27th 1956
Somewhere the sun is shining,
But here it only rains.
>From dusk to early dawn
I wonder where my sweetie's gone.
I used to call him sugar
'Cause he was sweet to me.
The reason why I'm all alone
Is very plain to see.
'Cause I left my sugar standin' in the rain,
And my sugar melted away.
Sweeter than the sugar from the sugar cane,
Didn't mean to treat him that way!
I guess my sweetie thought I was a lowdown kind,
Didn't realise I was so refined,
When I left my sugar standin' in the rain
And my sugar melted away.
'Cause I left my sugar standin' in the rain,
And my sugar melted away.
Sweeter than the sugar from the sugar cane,
Didn't mean to treat him that way!
It seems that he was kinda hard and let me stand,
Who would ever think that he'd evaporate
When I left my sugar standin' in the rain
And my sugar melted away,
And my sugar melted away?
