I'M AFRAID
Laurie London - 1960
I'm afraid to hold her hand in case she says let go
I'm afraid to tell her, but my heart says she must know
But I'm so afraid of losing the little that is real
So afraid to tell her how I feel
I'll admit that as her friend I've been doing fine
Yet will it occur to her to share her heart with mine
For I'm too afraid to speak of love, for maybe in the end
I may not win a sweetheart, only lose a friend
All I gotta do is tell her (Tell her)
Only gotta say three words (I love you)
She could make my dreams come true
If I only knew
But I'm afraid to gamble, afraid to risk my heart
Too afraid that she may say it's better that we part
So I'll keep my love a secret love and pray that in the end
She'll need me for a lover, not just as a friend
