I'VE BEEN THERE
(Allan / David (m & l) )
As released by Margaret Whiting 1959 < Margaret Whiting's Great Hits >
Also sung by Tommy Edwards 1959
Don't tell about his (her) arms
I've been there
I know all about his (her) charms
I've been there.
I know all too well
That velvet touch of his (hers)
And the way he (she) purrs
And the way he'll (she'll) say
Okay, I'd love to.
Don't tell me about his (her) kiss
I've kissed him (her)
And I'm not ashamed to say
I've missed him (her).
And if he (she) changes his (her) mind
And comes back to me
I know how it will be
Just wonderful for
I've been there, you see.
And if he (she) changes her mind
And comes back to me
I know how it will be
Just wonderful for
I've been there, you see.
NOTES:
Margaret Whiting was a very popular 1940s/50s/60s pop,
jazz, C & W singer and TV personality born in
Detroit USA. She had a host of recordings and continued
to entertain until the 1990s.
This song may be perhaps better recognized when sung by
Tommy Edwards who performed it on North American national TV
(Dick Clark Bandstand) in 1959. It has a distinct similarity
to Edwards seminal hit
< It's All In The Game > . (see elsewhere in this ILP database
In Tommy Edwards' work, < I've Been There > was also released
as the 'A' side of a 7 inch single in 1959. The 'B' side was
< I Looked At Heaven > .
The orchestra and chorus for both of these releases was under
the direction of LeRoy Holmes.
