I WANT A PARDON FOR DADDY
(Charles E. Roat)
Henry Burr - 1926
Vernon Dalhart - 1926
Also recorded by: Gene Autry; Slim Dusty.
A dear little girl stood there crying
By an old gloomy prison wall
The warder so kind heard her sighing
As he listened to her call
She said she had come for her Daddy
But the warden just shook his head
For tears in his eyes quickly started
As these words to him she said
I want a pardon for Daddy
For Mother is lonely and sad
I know he'll go straight
If they'll open the gate
For Daddy was all that we had
Last night while Mother was praying
I prayed to the angels above
I want a pardon for Daddy
To bring back the Daddy we love
