LITTLE SADIE
Bob Dylan
Went out last night, had a look around
I met little Sadie and I blowed her down
I ran right home and went to bed
With a 45 smokeless under my head
I began to think what a deed I'd done
So I grabbed my hat and away I run
I made a good run but I ran too slow
They overtook me down in Jericho
Standing on the corner ringing my bell
When up stepped the sheriff of Thomasville
He said young man, is your name Brown?
Are you the man that blowed little Sadie down?
Oh yes sir my name is Lee
I murdered little Sadie in first degree
First degree, second degree
You got any papers will you send them to me?
Instrumental break
Took me downtown and they dressed me in black
They put me on a train and they brought me back
Had no-one to go my bail
So they crammed me back into the county jail
The judge and jury took their stand
The judge had the papers in his hand
41 days and 41 nights
And 41 years to wear the ball and stripes.
