LOVE'S LEGALITIES
(Michael Smotherman)
Waylon Jennings - 1983
I recall a love and all its beauty
Everything was spoken was sparkling new
But like the tarnish comes to wine and silver
Things will go along the way they do
I recall a love growing slowly chilly
Woven fabrics tear under the strain
Daily life and all its confrontations
Always new, but somehow all the same
And so we hired the men desired in matters
Concerning love and letters of the law
Paid to think they're better in translations
What they thought we thought we saw
And they told me no love would be forthcoming
And the whereas and wherefores set you free
But I can't find where it says you don't love me
Under all this love's legalities
(But I can't find it says you don't love me)
