MAYBE I'LL COME BACK
(Charles L. Cooke / Howard C. Jeffrey)
Judy Garland - 1956
Marlene Dietrich - 1959
I will come back when the elephants roost in the trees
I will come back when the birds make love to the bees
I will come back when the sun refuses to shine
And President Coolidge is a cousin of mine
I will come back when the fish walk around on two feet
And promenade up and down on Washington Street
When the snow has turned from white to blue
Then maybe I will come back to you
(Orchestral Break)
Whistler's mother is a sister of mine
(Orchestral Break)
When the snow has turned from white to blue
Then maybe I will come back to you
Yes, maybe I'll come back
Could be I'll be back
Maybe I'll come back to you

TRIVIA: At the end of most episodes of her 1963-64 TV show,"The Judy
Garland Show", she would ding sing "Maybe I'll Come Back." The song's
original lyrics included the line "President Coolidge is a cousin of
mine." For the TV series, Garland would substitute a different name
each time she sang the song. These ranged from the show's video
camera operator to horror film actor Bela Lugosi.
