The alarm clock woke my sleeping, but I lay there for a minute
With a million cobwebs clinging to my brain
I stopped that bell from ringin' in the time it takes a heartbeat
Then I settled back and closed my eyes again
I reached out for my baby for some early mornin' lovin'
Then the terrible truth came staggering through my head
There was just an empty pillow and the mem'ry of his kisses
Baby wasn't there beside me in the bed
It's the morning after baby let me down
It's the daybreak and the heartbreak that I found
Only silence to torment me, no strong hands to touch me gently
It's the morning after baby let me down
There was nothing to hold on to, but the sheets that fell around me
And I started into trembling like a leaf
How could he ever leave me, he was more than just a lover
And he knew all the ways to make me feel complete
I can taste the salty teardrops, God, it's gettin' hard to swallow
Hope a glass of wine will take his love away
Got no appetite for eatin' just a sick and empty feeling
What a good for nothing way to start the day
It's the morning after baby let me down
It's the daybreak and the heartbreak that I found
Only silence to torment me, no strong hands to touch me gently
It's the morning after baby let me down

As recorded by JERRY LEE LEWIS:
The alarm clock woke my sleeping, I lay there for a minute
With a million cobwebs clingin' to my brain
I stopped that bell from ringin' in about the time it takes a heartbeat
Settled back and closed my eyes again
Reached out for my baby for some early mornin' lovin'
Terrible truth came staggering through my head
Lord, there was nothin' to hold on to, but what lay around me
That woman, she wasn't beside the Killer in the bed, and that's bad
(It's the mornin' after baby let me down) Ooooh, she let me down
(It's the daybreak and the heartbreak that I found) Ooh, get me down
Only silence to torment me, no soft hand to touch me gently
It's the mornin' after baby let me down
There was nothin' to hold on to but the sheets that fell around me
And, my God, I was tremblin' like a leaf
How could that woman leave me, she was more than just a lover
Every bit a lady warm and sweet
I can taste the salt teardrops, it's gettin' hard to swallow
But a glass of bourbon will take that lump away, yes it does
Ain't got an appetite for eatin', I'm sick and I got an empty feelin'
What a good for nothin' way to start the day, yeah
(It's the mornin' after baby) Let me down, let me down
(It's the daybreak and the heartbreak) Ooohh, Jerry Lee Lewis is down
Only silence to torment me, no soft hand to touch me gently
It's the mornin' after baby let me down
Yeah, it's the mornin' after baby let me down
(It's the daybreak) It's the daybreak and the heartbreak that I found
Only silence to torment me, no soft hand gonna touch Jerry gently
It's the mornin' after baby let me down
It's the mornin' after Norma let me down
Oh God, she let me down
My dear wife did, she let me down
Yeah, I'm tellin' it like it is
My woman let the Killer down
