NIGHT TIME WAS MY MOTHER
(A Miller / Claes Pearce)
as recorded by June Christy
with orchestra conducted by Pete Rugolo
July 24th 1958 Hollywood
Night time was my mother,
Cool and dark and lonely.
I recall no father, only night time
Singing lullabies to me.
Music was my brother,
Big and strong and lonely.
Never had a sister, only music
Speaking very wise to me.
Child of the dark, my brother would say,
Nobody walks alone.
Though the night must end and the music be still,
Someone will come to be your own.
Night time was my mother,
Music was my brother,
Then I found another who belongs to me.
He's a friend I'll never lose,
I've welcomed old man blues
To the family.
He's a friend I'll never lose,
I've welcomed old man blues
To the family.
