NO DEPOSIT NO RETURN
(John Adrian)
Billy Crash Craddock - 1975
Gypsy woman, bring your crystal ball and sit with me awhile
Seems like lately I've misplaced my young and carefree smile
Her name was Annabelle and I still taste her
Like cotton candy that the circus sells
She wanted all of me, I only gave part of
Second guessing all the Gods of love
I ran away, should I have stayed instead
The Gypsy smiled and said
There ain't no sunshine if there ain't no rain
There ain't no pleasure if there ain't no pain
And that's a lesson we all must learn
No deposit, no return
(Instrumental Break)
Tell me, old man, just like me you seem to be the driftin' kind
Is the answer waiting at the bottom of this glass of wine
Her name was Annabelle and all the ways she loved me
Are still too warm inside my memory to tell
She was my time and place, and every dream I have
Is nothing but a frame around her lovely face
Too late I see, should I have stayed instead
The old man smiled and said
There ain't no sunshine if there ain't no rain
There ain't no pleasure if there ain't no pain
And that's a lesson we all must learn
No deposit, no return
