OH LONELY CROWD
(Stevenson / Whitfield / Valdez)
as recorded by Gale Storm
1959
Oh lonely crowd, how can it be
I'm lost in the shuttle and cannot find me?
When I was a girl in a dull little town,
I longed for the city, I dreamed of renown.
I saved what I earned and I made me a dress,
And one day I left on the northern express!
Oh lonely crowd, how can it be
I'm lost in the shuttle and cannot find me?
A man took my hand and I gave him my heart,
He said I would go places right from the start.
He dressed me up fine and I looked like a queen,
I saw the sights that I never had seen!
Oh lonely crowd, how can it be
I'm lost in the shuttle and cannot find me?
In time I grew wise and I added some years,
I found that champagne can be worried with tears.
I longed for old friends who are loyal and true,
I packed to go back to the ones I once knew.
I pictured a welcome, a band that would play,
But they didn't know I was even away!
Oh lonely crowd, how can it be
I'm lost in the shuttle and cannot find me?
