ONE DAY A LITTLE GIRL
(George Cates / Mort Greene (m & l) )
As sung by the Lennon Sisters 1957
< Let's Get Acquainted >
One day a little girl
Next day a lady
That's how it happens
That's how it goes.
One day in blue jeans
Next day in satin
Little girls blossom
Just like the rose.
No more rag dollies
All over the room
Just lipstick and powder
And grown up perfume.
One day a little girl
Next day a lady
Why must it happen so soon.
(bridge)
No more rag dollies
All over the room
Just lipstick and powder
And grown up perfume.
One day a little girl
Next day a lady
Why must it happen so soon.
Notes:
The four Lennon sisters (of 6) were part of an 11 sibling
family which formed this traditional American pop group.
Over time they became an American institution and after
55 years, the sisters are still performing as of 2013.
Dianne, Peggy, Kathy and Janet got their start on the Lawrence
Welk show. This happened by chance after Welk's son Larry met
Dianne at high school and convinced his father to have a
listen to them.
To music enthusiasts, the sisters are perhaps best known for
their first hit < Tonight, You Belong To Me > in 1956 although
the popularity of this song (during the 1950s) really belonged
to the 'one hit wonder' sisters duo of Patience and Prudence.
Billy Rose and Lee David wrote the original music and lyrics
in 1926.
