OUR HOUSE
From the London Victoria Palace revue "Carry On London" (1973)
(G. Stevens / Eddie Seago)
Sid James - 1973
The ceiling may leak, the floorboards may creak
There's a door 'angin' off of the sideboard
There's a window or two where the wind whistles through
So we 'ave to fill 'em up with cardboard
But in our 'ouse there's a little love in every corner
You will never find a welcome warmer, anywhere you care to go
Just come to our 'ouse, it ain't exactly what you'd call a mansion
But you'll get a cup at any time of the day, you're welcome to stay at our 'ouse
The bath's in the loo, so tell me what can we do
But form a bleedin' great queue on the landing
And when there's a rush, the damn thing won't flush
So everybody's understanding
But in our 'ouse you can 'ear the sound of childrens laughter
And the sound will linger ever after everybody's gone away
They won't change our 'ouse, it's a home for us however 'umble
Even though it's fallin' down, in our memory to us it will still be our 'ouse
One day the Council said they 'ad a build a runway
They 'anded me the papers and said we'd 'ave to go
What did they know about ....
Our 'ouse, there's a little love in every corner
You will never find a welcome warmer, anywhere you care to go
They won't change our 'ouse, it's a home for us however 'umble
Even though the jumbo jets are landin' there now, to us it will still be our 'ouse
