PA'S NOT HOME
(Greene / Winbel)
Nellie Lutcher - 1951
My Pa's not home and my Ma's upstairs
So why are we sittin' on seperate chairs
Perhaps, you haven't heard about ..... laps!
The lights are low and the coast is clear
So what are we doing with dominoes here
Purchance, you haven't thought of ro.....mance!
We're alone, only you and me, alone
Alone, a-l-o-n-e, alone
So, for goodness sakes won't you please propose
I might as well tell you, my family knows
It's all a plan of mine and theirs
That's why my Pa's not home and my Ma's upstairs
Oh, the fron't door's locked and the back won't budge
So why are we chewing on chocolate fudge
I'm sure, you must have heard of ..... amour?
Now you know darned well I've locked the tomcat out
Now just what are we himming and hawing about
I'm dependin', I'm not a casual ..... friend!
All alone, only you and me, alone
Alone, a-l-o-n-e, alone
So, for goodness sakes won't you please propose
I might as well tell you, my family knows
It's all a plan of mine and theirs
That's why my Pa's not home and my Ma's upstairs
And three times seven, and it's half-past eleven
Now, my Pa is promotin' and my Ma is just hoping
C'mon, devote a little emotion to this notion, what's your motion?
Ain'tcha got eyes? Oh, I've got bulging eyes!
My Pa's not home and my Ma's upstairs!
