PENNY MOVED AWAY
Bobby Bare, Charlie Williams and Barry De Vorzon
Barry De Vorzon 1961
Penny lived upstairs but now she's gone.
Are you the one she waited for so long?
She said that you'd come back for her some day.
But you came too late 'cause Penny moved away.
She said "He's busy" when you didn't write.
And then I'd hear her cryin' in the night.
If the world could see you here today . . .
But you came too late 'cause Penny moved away.
She was smilin' on the day she said goodbye
But I knew that she was tryin' not to cry.
She didn't tell me where she meant to go.
I guess she didn't think you'd want to know.
She said "We'll marry when he comes to town."
She even saved and bought a wedding gown.
She said "I'll wear it down the aisle some day."
But it was hangin' there when Penny moved away.
Yes, it was hangin' there when Penny moved away.
