ROMANY VIOLIN
Tibsen / Tibsen / Powell
as recorded by Eve Boswell 1954
They say that when a Romany violin cries,
A dream fell apart, and it's somebody's heart that's aching.
When gypsies gather round the old camp fire at night,
And stars are dancing in the skies above,
Their hearts are light and gay
As they sing their cares away,
And dance until the gypsy fire dies.
But if they know a love has gone astray,
Those violins will sob the night away!
They say that when a Romany violin cries,
A dream fell apart, and it's somebody's heart that's aching.
They say that when a Romany violin cries,
It's mournful and low for it knows that a heart is breaking.
I know, for I'm alone in my world of tears,
My only souvenirs, because I love you so!
Some day, you'll hear that Romany violin cry,
And though we're apart, you will know it's my heart still crying for you,
Crying for you,
Crying for you!
