(Walter O'Keefe / Henry Archer)
Billy Jones & Ernest Hare (The Happiness Boys) - 1927
Ted Weems & His Orch. (Vocal: Parker Gibbs) - Recorded Aug. 24, 1927
As recorded by BILLY JONES & ERNEST HARE:
BILLY: (Sounds of sobbing)
ERNEST: Oh, Bill, what's the trouble? What are you crying about?
BILLY: I'm all broken up. My girl's thrown me over
ERNEST: Yes, I understand she did throw you over. She told you
that you must forgive and forget.
BILLY: That's my touble, I've always been more for giving than for getting (Sob).
ERNEST: Oh, now, don't cry, don't cry
BILLY: A year ago, I met that girl and fell in love at sight
ERNEST: You sure were more than pals or friends, together ev'ry night
BILLY: Well I bought her several presents with the money I had saved
ERNEST: You worked a lot of overtime to get the things she craved
BILLY: But now somehow we drifted far apart
ERNEST: Well, don't worry, Bill, she'll have a change of heart
BILLY: Well, I don't know
BILLY: She is gone, let her go
ERNEST: Well, you're okay and I should know
BILLY: But she'll never find a fellow like me
ERNEST: Aaahhh, don't you cry and don't you care
BILLY: Let her travel anywhere
She'll never find a fellow like me
ERNEST: You know I couldn't name a gift you didn't bring
BILLY: I got her simply ev'rything
ERNEST: She's still got your diamond ring
BILLY: Well, let's not speak of that
ERNEST: For a time things were swell
BILLY: It's all over, ding dong dell
BOTH: She'll never find a fellow like me
BILLY: Uh-huh! We never had a quarrel and what caused this I can't see
ERNEST: It seems to me you both agree that you must disagree
BILLY: Why, she'd even kick if I should chance to be two hours late
ERNEST: I'll bet she even would complain if you should have a date
BILLY: You know, one day we saw a picture called "The Sheik"
ERNEST: Yeah?
BILLY: Yeah!
ERNEST: And ever since that day you never speak
BILLY: That's right
BILLY: She is gone, let her go
ERNEST: Well, you can cook and you can sew
BILLY: But she'll never find a fellow like me, I'll take extra beatin'
ERNEST: Don't you weep, don't you fret
BILLY: Well, she'll repent and she'll regret
She'll never find a fellow like me
ERNEST: She borrowed dough from you to pay her rent
BILLY: Yeah, didn't give me back a cent
ERNEST: Well, now I know what Barnum meant
BILLY: Well, let's not speak of that
ERNEST: Now you're free, all is clear
BILLY: Hail! Hail! Hail! The gang's all here
BOTH: She'll never find a fellow like me
BOTH: She is gone, let her go
You're not fast, but not too slow
She'll never find a fellow like me
BOTH: Just feel great, you'll just laugh
I tore up her photograph
She'll never find a fellow like me
ERNEST: She has that kind of skin you love to touch
BILLY: Ah, that is how I got in dutch
ERNEST: Um, those things never get you much
BILLY: Well, let's not speak of that
BOTH: Well, let her go, far and wide
I enjoyed the buggy ride
She'll never find a fellow like me
