SNAKES AND SNAILS
(Curtis)
as recorded by Alma Cogan
1965
I wanted you to love me,
Had to know what was on your mind;
I went to a gypsy woman,
Just to help this heart of mine.
She bent down in a corner,
She said, "I know what to do,
I mixed it up this mornin',
I must have been expectin' you!"
It's made of snakes, snails,
Puppy dog's tails,
Things that you don't know!
It's made of old wine, turpentine,
Rats' blood, tastes good,
Mix it up and then I stir it slow!
I wanted you to love me,
Had to hear you say it too;
I went to a gypsy woman
And asked her what to do.
She gave me some love potion,
Said to put it in your tea.
I saw your face go red and hot,
Then watched you turn pale on me!
It's made of snakes, snails,
Puppy dog's tails,
Things that you don't know!
It's made of old wine, turpentine,
Rats' blood, tastes good,
Mix it up and then I stir it slow!
I wanted you to love me,
So I did what the gypsy said.
When I woke up this mornin',
I saw you lyin' in bed.
I went back to the gypsy,
Asked her what she did do.
She said, "I'm sorry honey,
But I have to have my fun too!"
It's made of snakes, snails,
Puppy dog's tails,
Things that you don't know!
It's made of old wine, turpentine,
Rats' blood, tastes good,
Mix it up and then I stir it slow!
I want you to love me,
I want you to love me,
I want you to love me,
I want you to love me...
