David and I collected old bottles
Ladderback chairs and broken down rockers
When we first came together we had such ideas
Full of the future and full of good feelings.
David and I bought a farm in the country
Tore down walls and planted tall trees
Set up in the comfort of workin' and sharin'
And plannin' the lifetime of livin' together.
Then the southeast wind came and blew up my mind
Tore up the memories I'd long left behind
Started me thinkin', and started me beamin'
But most of all it started me dreamin'.
(bridge)
David and I gathered up our belongings
Parted the ways when the dream started fallin'
We listened to children on separate occasions
And justified loneliness whenever we're able.
David and I live in separate places
And sometimes I run out to live in the spaces
I sit in the rocker, set chairs 'round the table
And bury my past with gentle persuasion.
Then the southeast wind came and blew up my mind
Tore up the memories I'd long left behind
Started me thinkin' and started me beamin'
But most of all it started me dreamin'.
But most of all... it started me dreamin'.
