STRANGERS
(Johnny Brandon / Peter Hart)
Marie Benson & Johnny Brandon - 1955
BRANDON:
It doesn't seem so very long ago
When we were queueing for that bus that didn't come
BENSON: And I gave you my only cigarette, my friend
BRANDON: And I gave you my stick of chewing gum
BENSON:
We were strangers when we met
A week or two ago
BRANDON:
Oh, we were strangers then and yet
Somehow I seemed to know
The question on your lips
The starlight in your eyes
The way you struck your smile
Like a million summer skies
BENSON:
A date on Sunday evening
And Monday night as well
The gags, the fun, the dances
The whole affair was swell (JB: It really was)
BRANDON: A sail along the river
BENSON: And a misty Moon above
BOTH: Strange how strangers fall in love
SPOKEN:
BENSON: Johnny, remember the first dance we ever went to together?
BRANDON: Oh, you bet I do. Remember I asked you to have a drink?
BENSON: Yes, and we sat at that cosy little bar
BRANDON: Uh-huh, and I ordered the biggest ice cream soda in the place
BENSON: Yes, with two straws
BRANDON: Well, I wasn't really thirsty at the time
BENSON: Hey, Johnny, I've got a great idea
BRANDON: Hmm-hmm, what's that?
BENSON: Well, Ma and Pa have both gone to the pictures
So, we can stay home if you like
BRANDON: Yeah?
BENSON: We can sit on the sofa
BRANDON: On the sofa?
BENSON: Turn out the lights
BRANDON: Turn out the lights, yeah?
BENSON: Turn on the radio
BRANDON: Uh-huh
BENSON: We can hold hands
BRANDON: Oh, Marie, Marie, let's be daring
BENSON: Yes
BRANDON: Let's be really daring
BENSON: Yes
BRANDON: Let's take our shoes off and pull our toes
BENSON Oh, no!
BENSON:
We were strangers when we met
A week or two ago
We were strangers then and yet
Somehow I seemed to know
The laughter in your voice
Your step upon the stairs
Your understanding way
??????????????
BRANDON:
??????????????
A stroll around the park
Our evenings at the movies
Our hands touched in the dark
BENSON:
??????????????
??????????????
BOTH:
Strange how strangers fall in love
Strange how strangers fall in love
BENSON: Same time tomorrow?
BRANDON: ?????
BENSON: All right
BRANDON: Goodnight (Sound of a kiss)
BENSON: By the way, what is your name?
