SWEET BABY GIRL
(Richard D. Staedtler / Carl Kidd / Kenneth Lewis)
Peggy Sue - 1969
Wrote my mom a letter and this is what I had to say
Mom, by the time I buy some food and get the rent all paid
I won't have much money left, but I know you need some help
So I'll send what I can, I hope you understand
Then my mama wrote me back and said
Sweet baby girl, God bless you my sweet girl
I'm so proud you're mine, I pray for you every night
I'm so glad you're a-doin' good, knock on wood I knew you could
Sweet baby girl, my sweet baby girl
Wrote and I told my mama I found me a boy I love
And he's so good and kind to me that I can't give him up
Takes me to church on Sunday, wants to marry me someday
So don't get mad at me if I don't make it home next week
Then my mama wrote me back and said
Sweet baby girl, God bless you my sweet girl
If you have to change your plan, you know I'll understand
Anything you do is fine, child of mine you're my whole life
Sweet baby girl, my sweet baby girl
Turned the letter over and pasted on the back
Me and dad and dear old mom on a faded photograph
I felt a tear come to my eye when I read sweet girl of mine
You mean the world to me and in my heart you'll always be
Mama loves you more than you can know
Sweet baby girl, God bless you my sweet girl
I'm so proud you're mine, I pray for you every night
I'm so glad you're a-doin' good, knock on wood I knew you could
Sweet baby girl, my sweet baby girl
Sweet baby girl, my sweet baby girl
Sweet baby girl..........FADE
