Sometimes when I'm very good, Dad takes me to the fair,
I love to see the sideshows, and the crowds of people there.
"What do you want," my Daddy says, "where would you like to go?
How about the monkey house, speak up," but I say NO -

I want to go on the merry-go-round, merry-go-round, merry-go-round,
And ride upon horses that don't touch the ground,
On the merry-go-merry-go-round.
The horses with legs that are perfectly still,
Yet run just as fast, be it up, or down hill,
Where there's never a stumble and never a spill,
On the merry-go-merry-go-round.

I have to go to Sunday School, most every other week,
And sit as quiet as a mouse, and never never speak.
Who wants to go to heaven, said my teacher one fine day,
"We do," said the other kids, so I said that's O.K. -

I want to go on the merry-go-round, merry-go-round, merry-go-round,
And ride on a horse with his feet off the ground,
On the merry-go-merry-go-round.
The horse has a post running right through its back,
Which I hold with both hands as it runs round the track,
And I only let go, just to give it a smack,
On the merry-go-merry-go-round.

Mother said to me one day, it seems a trifle sad,
To think that you're an only child, so I've consulted Dad,
And he suggests a sister dear, with eyes of deepest blue.
Thank you Mother dear, I said, if it's all the same to you -

I want to go on the merry-go-round, merry-go-round, merry-go-round,
'Cos I know the best horse that's ever been found,
On the merry-go-merry-go-round.
My horse is a racer, and runs very fast,
No horse overtakes it, they never get past,
My horse comes in first, and the others all last,
On the merry-go-merry-go-round.
