TURN THAT BOAT AROUND
(Jimmy Rankin)
As sung by the Rankin Family 1993 < North Country >
Brave the lonesome winsd
Sail the cold deep water
Brave the lonesome wind
Sail the cold deep water.
The wind will see them home
The sea will do no harm
Turn that boat around
Wait the sons and daughters.
Long time gone, nothing's lost forgotten.
Turn that boat around.
There's plenty there for all
Break open the doors and hatches
Avoid the rocks and squalls
Fill the hold with catches.
The wind will see them home
The sea will do no harm
Turn that boat around
Wait the bonnie lassies.
Long time gone, nothing's lost forgotten.
Turn that boat around.
(bridge)
The wind will see them home
The sea will do no harm
Turn that boat around
Wait the bonnie lassies.
Long time gone, nothing's lost forgotten.
Turn that boat around.
The wind will see you home
The sea will do no harm
Turn that boat around
Turn that boat around
Turn that boat around
Turn that boat around
Turn that boat around
Turn that boat around
Turn that boat around
Turn that boat around
Turn that boat around
(fade)
NOTES:
The Rankin Family are a Canadian musical
family group. They hail from Mabou, province
of Nova Scotia (the same province as Rita MacNeil
(see elsewhere in this ILP database for her work).
The original group of five were made up from twelve
siblings, all of whom were musically talented. The
first group started singing in 1970. They performed
Celtic music as well as jigs and reels.
They won a number of Canadian music awards. Sadly,
many of the members from the original group, passed
relatively early in life.
