TWENTY MILLION PEOPLE
Arthur James Johnston (m) Sam Coslow (l) 1933

Jan 25th 1933 New York
Why do I sing with feeling,
A feeling I can't hide?
It's time I was revealing
What I've been keeping inside;
Twenty million people are listening to my song,
But I'm only singing to one!
Twenty million people will know that I belong
To no-one else under the sun!
Every city street and country byeway
Can hear my cheery hello,
But they're not aware it's only my way
Of letting him know
That I need him so!
Twenty million people will pass the word along
And ask him to please listen in;
Maybe he'll discover how lonely I've been!
And even if he hasn't heard,
Maybe he will take the word
Of twenty million people who know I'm just singin' to one!
Twenty million people will pass the word along
And ask him to please listen in;
Maybe he'll discover how lonely I've been!
And even if he hasn't heard,
Maybe he will take the word
Of twenty million people who know I'm just singin' to one,
Singin' my song to one!
