Listen to the birdies letting those squeaks out,
Puffing their cheeks out
All around the place.
Little hurdy-gurdies sounding so merry,
Getting so very
Blue in the face!
Surely there's a reason
Everybody's gay,
It must be the season
For the wedding day!
Ding-dong-dell,
The bells in the steeple go
Ding-dong-dell
Around the countryside.
Ding-dong-dell,
And off all the people go,
Off to kiss the bride.
All the donkey carts are driving
To the wedding in the Spring,
All the neighbourhood's arriving
To see the wedding ring.
Now they're forming in a column,
For the service has begun;
Although the pardre's solemn,
He's the only one!
Down the aisle,
The pages and flower girls;
In a while
The happy bride and groom.
The ladies smile,
"We'll give her a shower, girls,
Dishes and a broom!".
All the gentlemen are jolly,
For the wine is flowing free!
All the ladies melancholy
For days that used to be!
When the carriage that's been waiting
Takes the newlyweds away,
The crowd keeps celebrating
Till the break of day!
Ding-dong-dell,
The bells in the steeple go
Ding-dong-dell
Around the countryside.
Ding-dong-dell,
Toast the bride,
Then farewell,
Off they ride.
Oh what fun comes under the heading of
"Wedding In The Spring"!
