WHEN ALL IS SAID AND DONE
(Benny Andersson / Bjorn Ulvaeus 1981) (part of ABBA)
Pierce Brosnan / Meryl Streep / Chorus (2008)
From the Mamma Mia! 2008 CD Soundtrack:
(Pierce Brosnan sings)
Here's to us, one more toast, and then we'll pay the bill
Deep inside, both of us, could feel the autumn chill
Birds of passage, you and me, we fly instinctively
When the summer's over and the dark clouds hide the sun
Neither you nor I'm to blame when all is said and done.
** (The following verse was written specifically for the 2008 CD Soundtrack by
Bjorn Ulvaeus but did not appear in the film).
(Pierce Brosnan sings)
It’s been there, in my dreams, the scene I see unfold
Who at last, flesh and blood, to cherish and to hold
Jealous fools will suffer yes, I know and I confess
Once I lost my way when something good had just begun
Lesson learned, it’s history, when all is said and done.
(Pierce Brosnan sings)
In our lives, we have walked some strange and lonely treks
(Pierce Brosnan & Meryl Streep sing)
Slightly worn, but dignified, and not too old for sex.
(Pierce Brosnan sings)
We have hidden open eyed, with nothing left untried
Standing calmly at the crossroads, no desire to run
(Pierce Brosnan and Chorus sing)
There’s no hurry anymore, when all is said and done.
(Pierce Brosnan & Meryl Streep & Chorus)
Standing calmly at the crossroads, no desire to run
There’s no hurry anymore, when all is said, and done.

The Mamma Mia' stage play debuted in London in the Prince Edward Theatre on
April 6 1999 and in North America on May 23 2000.
The film musical contained 20 songs with lyrics all written by Benny Andersson,
Bjorn Ulvaeus and Stig Anderson (5) during their careers.
Mamma Mia set a record for the largest weekend premiere ever for a movie
musical.
The story of the the lyrics:
The stage version lyrics were different in many cases and some songs were cut or
added for the film version.
Interestingly, the lyrics as written in 1981 differ in context from those in the
2008 film. The 1981 lyrics centred around a couple leaving each other
(previously Faltskog/Ulvaeus & finally Andersson/Lyngstad in divorces) while the
2008 version referenced a couple finding their way back to each other from the
past (Brosnan/Streep).

In our lives we have walked some strange and lonely treks
Slightly worn but dignified and not too old for sex
We're still strivin’ for the sky
No taste for humble pie.
(Anni-Frid Lyngstad / Agnetha Faltskog sing)
Thanks for all your generous love and thanks for all the fun
Neither you nor I'm to blame when all is said and done.
(Anni-Frid Lyngstad / Agnetha Faltskog sing)
It's so strange when you're down and lyin’ on the floor
How you rise, shake your head, get up and ask for more
Clear-headed and open-eyed
With nothing left untried
Standing calmly at the crossroads, no desire to run
There's no hurry any more when all is said and done.
Standing calmly at the crossroads, no desire to run
There's no hurry any more when all is said and done.
