As recorded by TOMMY HANDLEY
with Jack Hylton & His Orch., August 1929:
If I catch Connie in the cornfield
I'll give her such a good hiding
My Connie would look bonnie
With her head in a sack
Her beauty went off duty
And forgot to come back
I met her accidentally
When she and all her family
Were in the cornfield digging for gold
There was her brother John
And several hangers-on
When I met Connie in the cornfield
There was her sister Sue
She brought her cousin too
When I met Connie in the cornfield
They started singing before me
"Tell me the old, old story"
We were both going strong
Till her father came along
Then I left Connie in the cornfield
(Orchestral Interlude)
Near some scarecrow we sat talking
Then home we started walking
When we got to the farm
I'd the scarecrow on me arm
And I'd left Connie in the cornfield
